History
In 1964 the only
mental health services that were available in the county were provided by
the County Department of Human Services. A group of community leaders, led
by Judge Clair Voss, organized and incorporated Family Service of Waukesha
so that additional mental health treatment resources would be available for
Waukesha County residents. Family Service of Milwaukee assisted in the
early organization and staffing of the office in Waukesha.
Program Goal
To reduce
individual and family stress that is caused by critical personal and family
changes, losses and events; and to assist individuals to develop their full
potential.
Services
A broad range of
mental health services are provided in offices located in Waukesha,
Oconomowoc and Menomonee Falls. Services include individual, family,
couples, and group counseling, treatment for anxiety and depression and
other emotional disorders, childhood developmental difficulties, coping
with loss and stress, drug and alcohol abuse, separation and divorce
Coordinated referrals for medical evaluation, case management, consultation
and supervision are also provided. Family Service of Waukesha has a program
affiliation with Waukesha Memorial Hospital's Behavioral Medicine Center
and the Lawrence Center's drug and alcohol treatment program.
Referral Sources
Clients often
contact the agency during a time of individual or family crisis. Referrals
are also made by schools, courts, Waukesha County Department of Health and
Human Services, attorneys, clergy, police, social service agencies and the
medical profession.
