Cooperative Parenting Center

History
The Cooperative Parenting Center began in January 2000 as a supplement to the court-ordered "Helping Children Cope with Divorce" program. The Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Faye McBeath Foundation, a United Way Venture Grant, and participant fees initially funded the program. In 2002, the popular “People to People” groups were included under the Cooperative Parenting Center umbrella.

Program Goals
The Cooperative Parenting Center is dedicated to helping families in conflict increase knowledge and develop new skills to improve family functioning. Its programs are designed to help parents of minor children become better parents and learn ways to reduce conflict, keep both parents engaged in their parenting responsibilities, stay child-focused, and to help children adjust to parental divorce and separation.

Programs
Children Cope with Divorceis a 4-hour seminar for divorced parents. Parents learn the stages and tasks of divorce, how to help their children cope, and the importance of co-parenting.

Co-Parenting Parenting After Divorce is a 10-week class for divorced parents who are experiencing conflict. This class helps parents become child-focused and develop a business-like relationship.

Parenting Young Children is an educational group co-sponsored with The Women’s Center that explores parent/child relationships and strategies for handling stress and discipline.

Rollercoasters is an 8-week program for children ages 5-12 who are experiencing significant changes in their family due to parental separation, divorce, and blended family issues.

Community Collaboration
The Cooperative Parenting Center works in cooperation with Waukesha County Family Court, Family Court Counseling Services, Waukesha County Technical College, Waukesha County Jail, and The Women’s Center.
